Cryptosheets scenarios are dynamic combinations of pre-configured queries, transformations and filters easily searchable & accessible with one click. Scenarios are a gamechanger for the way you access and use crypto data, see how.

Cryptosheets scenarios allow for unique combinations of filters & transformations at multiple levels making them the most valuable crypto data tool for any user

OVERVIEW

🌐 Crypto data is a paradigm shift in the evolution of data accessibility. It’s fully transparent and also everywhere right? So why then does it remain so challenging to consistently get coherent, actionable data to line up for simple comparison or validation? Why is @Coingecko’s data different from Messari data?

👉 The issue lies in part with how we inherently assume & expect the data will be served to us, in what format, data type etc. This heuristic flaw born from decades of binge access to highly uniform, regulated data is what leads people down the dangerous path of assuming everything can be curated, conformed and served the same way it always has been.

👏 Our hats off to those teams like Messari, CoinGecko and others who have made herculean efforts to build large teams and continuously curate the exploding crypto data universe. You might think of Cryptosheets scenarios as a universal swiss army knife that can be used and applied to anybody’s crypto data, regardless of format, curation, ownership, brand etc — therein lies the truly unprecedented power of scenarios.

Cryptosheets scenarios are specifically designed to accommodate for that dynamic and represent an evolved way of thinking about how to access and represent the data. Thus scenarios are capable of spanning and transforming multiple levels, attribution layers and dimensionality dilemmas to deliver the data exactly how it’s intended by the user.

Common scenarios can include filtered aggregations, lists and trending data sets explore them here

This article covers the basics for…

  1. TYPES of scenarios
  2. EXAMPLES of scenarios
  3. SEARCHING for existing scenarios
Multiple scenarios available for the same API endpoint like this one from CryptoQuant allow rapid testing and analysis

With scenarios you can…

  • ✅ Create simple filters for dashboards or screeners
  • ✅ Rapidly access unique combinations of filters & transformations at multiple levels
  • Rename any column for any data set from any provider
  • ✅ Extract deeply nested data points from JSON arrays
  • ✅ Build complex contingent data functions
  • ✅ Combine scenarios to build dynamic models
  • Save hours looking for the exact right formula or endpoint
  • ✅ Get exactly & only* the data you need

1. TYPES OF SCENARIOS

Scenarios can range from simple filters and formatting transformations to complex contingent data functions. Some examples might include returning just the price from a larger API response or returning a filtered list based on a deeply nested attribute, then sorting and returning only certain data fields. More advanced scenarios might include contingent historical scenario analysis for the market impact from tail risk events vs. simple market drawdowns.

Some more common scenario types include (but are not limited to)

  • EXTRACT & FORMAT
  • FILTER, SLICE & TRANSFORM
  • RENAME, REFORMAT & TRANSFORM
  • DYNAMICALLY COMPARE HISTORICAL SCENARIOS

WHY CRYPTOSHEETS SCENARIOS ARE SO VALUABLE

Scenarios allow for unique combinations of filters & transformations at multiple levels differentiating them from simple screeners or dashboards.

They allow the user to extract, format, transform, reformat and transform again ANY data point from ANY data set 👉 no matter what the source is.

This common example objective has proven to take most users on average 10–15 minutes. Using Cryptosheets scenarios, it takes them less than 10 seconds.
Using a combination of our proprietary global parameters, we can easily extract and transform then format the data precisely how the user wants it — and have that scenario be available forever going forward.

2. SCENARO EXAMPLES

The best place to find hundreds of examples of scenarios is on the Cryptosheets App browse homepage or from any of the other search tools throughout the platform.

User query:
TYPE — SCREENER
“I want to see the top 100 coins ranked by market cap from Coingecko”

User query:
TYPE-SCREENER/FILTER
“I want to see the top 1000 wallet addresses for PIVX ranked by amount held”

User query:
TYPE-FILTER/TRANSFORM
“I want to see cryptoassets that have experienced or been victim to a 51% attack but JUST the symbols in a list with no headers

User query:
TYPE-FILTER/TRANSFORM
I want to see historical Bitcoin HODL Waves from Glassnode but I need to rename the column headers and have the dates in a very specific format”

User query:
TYPE-ADVANCED/MULTIPLE
I want to see the exchange outflows for Bitmex and Bitfinex over different time periods

User query:
TYPE-ADVANCED/MULTIPLE
I want to know the average market impact for historical corporate events flagged as positive — so I can compare the PayPal Engineering headlines on a relative basis

3. SEARCHING FOR SCENARIOS

🔦 Scenarios can be accessed in two main ways

A) Using the global search, browse search or workspace search sections
B) Searching scenarios by endpoint from the API console query builder

3a. Using the main global & browse search sections

You can easily search across hundreds of different scenarios and filter by type, current vs historical, provider, keyword and much more

3b. Searching scenarios by endpoint from the API console query builder

  • Each API console query builder has the scenarios drop down menu built in so you can easily access and test any available scenario.
  • Once you have selected a scenario, the console form fields will auto populate
  • Now you can literally do ALL of the same things you would otherwise be able to do including…

✅ Send data to the sheet
✅ Send a custom function to the sheet
✅ Make a request with no data sent
✅ Copy the function for Excel or Googlesheets

*Note not all endpoints will have scenarios

3c. Searching scenarios from the global search menu

  • Press the / key from anywhere in the Cryptosheets side panel to pull of the global search menu where you can search across all different and available object type from endpoints to research, templates and scenarios
